Honey Island Swamp
Take a personalized narrated nature tour into the 250-square-mile Honey Island Swamp. Nearly 70,000 acres of protected wildlife area, the Nature Conservancy's First Louisiana Nature Preserve. Honey Island is between three and seven miles wide and 15 to 20 miles long. It is located 50 minutes from New Orleans in Southeast Louisiana.
Audubon Zoo, Audubon Aquarium of the Americas, New Orleans, LA
Zoo animals are in natural habitat exhibits and they have an animal collection ranging from unique white alligators to white tigers. Audubon Aquarium of the Americas has exhibits and a wonderful aquatic animal collection.
Acadian Village - Lafayette, LA
Located on 32-acres, seven of the 11 buildings are authentic homes of the 19th century donated by the families whose ancestors once occupied them. Each was moved piece by piece and carefully restored. They are examples of early Acadian homebuilders, complete with wooden pegs, mud walls, hand-hewn cypress timbers and high-peaked roofs.
Hodges Gardens - Florien, LA
Located in the northwest region of Louisiana in Sabine Parish, the gardens consist of a variety of plants and flowers, from a formal rose garden to a collection of Japanese Red Maple trees. There is a 225-acre lake, gardens, waterfalls, pools, a geyser and fountains. Cabins may be reserved for overnight stay. The land was donated to the state of Louisiana in 2007.
The Greater Baton Rouge Model Railroaders, Jackson, LA
Working model railroad displays colorful trains racing through miniature worlds. Operated by a railroad non-profit club. Certified instructors are provided to clubs and events in order to teach the principles of railroad safety to everyone.
